Hi,

May be this information could be of any use to you; my son's behaviour drastically improved once he was on a wheat/sugar+/dairy free diet. And getting fish oils, Omega 369. The change has been dramatic; it is tough for him, but he is so motivated, as his life has improved 100 % with the diet.
It is worth looking into; leaky gut syndrome has been found to be one of the many factors contributing to Autism.

Good luck to everyone!!

The connection between animals and our children is truly an amazing thing.

Alex sounds like an amazing kiddo!

We are very lucky to have them in our lives.

We have two cats who have always loved Alex, even when he was a baby. One will follow him around like a dog and play outside with him.

You don't have to convince me of the affinity kids like Alex have with animals or that animals can be a wonderful boon to a struggling psyche.

When traveling with any children, a DVD player with favorite movies has been my bestest friend. We were very tight (budget-wise) when I first married my current husband and I wanted to spend money on a DVD player for the back seat. My husband didn't know why I wanted to do something "so extravagant" for his often irksome stepdaughter. I told him it was more for me than her.

One trip and he was convinced. We've never gone a long trip without since.

On the plane, that's a tough one. I don't have any ideas, but I wish you the best.

The only downside is that it needs to be available at bedtime everytime. If it gets dirty or soiled, it has to be washed and ready by bedtime. If he sleeps over elsewhere, it needs to be ready to go with him and return.

My son had a bear that played music that we had to replace multiple times (and bought spares) so that we'd be covered, even in his soiling his bedding phases. He has a quilt he ALWAYS sleeps with that we have to track down before bed because he loves to take it places and curl up with it even during the day (He's left it in the dryer, the washing machine, etc.).

But, if you can do that, it can not only provide comfort and protection against fears, it can be a going-to-bed talisman. You can keep getting this and that, but, once you're tucked in with THIS blanket, it's time to sleep.

Nightmare blankets and other talismans can help with this, too, under the right circumstances. It might be worth trying.
